Building a Safer Future, Proposals for reform of the building safety regulatory system, A consultation, Published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) in June 2019, suggests that: ‘Building safety refers to fire safety and structural safety. This may also apply to other disciplines such as electrical and gas safety, where these could impact the fire safety of the building. Related articles.’
Setting the bar. A new competence regime for building a safer future. The Final Report of the Competence Steering Group for Building a Safer Future, published in October 2020, suggests that ‘Building safety’ under the Building Safety Regulations: ‘…refers to the major safety hazards that might result in multiple casualties, principally fire safety and structural safety of a building. Other safety hazards may be considered where these have potential to impact on the fire safety of a building, such as electrical and gas safety.’
BSI Flex 8670 V3.0, Built environment – Core criteria for building safety in competence frameworks – Code of practice, April 2021 Version 3, published by The British Standards Institution in 2021, defines building safety as a: ‘…matter relevant to protecting the safety of people from risk in and around buildings (including but not limited to fire safety, structural safety, public health and public safety) and pertaining to the specification, design, manufacture, procurement, construction, inspection, assessment, management, operation, maintenance, refurbishment and demolition of buildings’
